The Royal Library in Copenhagen

Tanja and I visited the Royal Library in Copenhagen yesterday, in order to search their archives for our genealogical research.

Tanja had ordered some materials from the archive, that she could dive into in the research reading room.

I had planned to take a look in the scanned news article database, that only can be visited on their workstations. Unfortunately the reading room, where these normally are placed is being renovated, so I had to sit in the corridor, where hundreds of tourists were photographing and filming everything (and everyone) for their instagram accounts.

I found a corner of the Royal Library in Copenhagen, where there were fewer photographing tourists.

A charming building (the old part at least), but I must admit that besides the central station, this probably is the most noisy place in Copenhagen I’ve been yet. I’m glad that I brought my noise cancelling headphones.

The old part of The Royal Library, was built in 1906.

The old reading hall is unfortunately reserved for researchers and students. The library is very proud of the fact that Lenin used the library while visiting, apparently always sitting in chair number 9.
